Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented individual to join our team as an Accounting Technician at the Defense Finance and Accounting Service. As an Accounting Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and completeness of financial and accounting information.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform duties for the full range of accounts and types of transactions, including validating, monitoring, controlling, and maintaining accounting transactions and accounting records/ledgers for multiple accounts.
  • Review source documents to determine correct actions to be taken and verify the accuracy and completeness of data required for the source document.
  • Respond to questions from customers or co-workers regarding accounting data, discrepancies, and procedures.
  • Research minor problems covering all aspects of processing technical accounting data, compile, analyze, and summarize data from systems, documents, and reports.
  • Assist in monitoring operations' compliance to identify problem areas, determine actions required to improve operating program effectiveness, and ensure and maintain the integrity of financial and accounting information.
Requirements
  • One year of general experience, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.
  • General experience is defined as progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.
  • Specialized experience is defined as performing duties that support the processing of financial/accounting transactions using standardized procedures that may include reviewing financial/accounting systems information/documents for accuracy/completeness, inputting financial/accounting information into automated systems, or correcting invalid financial/accounting transactions.
Education
  • Two years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation, or the equivalent, is a prerequisite may be substituted to meet the general experience requirement.
  • Four years of successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation, or the equivalent, is a prerequisite may be substituted to meet the specialized experience requirement.

Please note that this is a developmental position, and duties will be performed below the full performance level. The selected candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Level 1 Certification under the DoD Financial Management (FM) Certification Program as a condition of employment.
