Position Summary
The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) plays a vital role in delivering comprehensive medical care to patients within our mental health facility. This position is integral to ensuring the highest standards of patient safety and care quality. The CNS will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to enhance patient outcomes and support the overall mission of Gateways Hospital and Mental Health Center.
Key Responsibilities
- Administers nursing interventions, medications, and treatments in accordance with established protocols and best practices.
- Provides education to patients regarding health management, treatment plans, and medication adherence.
- Coordinates medical appointments and follow-ups for patients to ensure continuity of care.
- Engages in regular consultations with psychiatrists to discuss patient treatment and medication adjustments.
- Facilitates communication between patients and healthcare providers to optimize treatment effectiveness.
- Oversees the procurement and management of medical supplies and medications to maintain adequate stock levels.
- Collaborates with pharmacy services to manage medication authorizations and patient assistance programs.
- Participates in clinical meetings and training sessions to enhance professional development and team collaboration.
- Monitors patient conditions and reports significant changes to the treatment team promptly.
- Assists in the recruitment, training, and evaluation of nursing staff.
- Maintains accurate and timely documentation of patient care activities and outcomes.
- Leads emergency response efforts in critical situations, ensuring patient safety and effective communication with emergency services.
- Contributes to a supportive and therapeutic environment for patients and staff alike.
- Performs additional duties as assigned to support the overall function of the nursing team.
- Active California RN license.
- BLS certification required; BSN preferred.
- Experience in psychiatric nursing or related fields is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of mental health issues and treatment modalities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in high-pressure situations and maintain composure.
- Successful completion of background checks as mandated by state regulations.
- Valid California Driver's license and acceptable driving record.
- Compliance with all health and safety training requirements.
- Must be able to perform essential job functions, including lifting and moving patients as necessary.
