Environmental Health and Safety Specialist

They will be responsible for evaluating facility projects, process changes, and assisting teammates in defining compliance requirements.

The successful candidate will also have excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work in a fast-paced and demanding start-up atmosphere. They will be able to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Applying knowledge of environmental, health, and safety regulations to evaluate facility projects and process changes
  • Interacting with federal, state, and local regulators to resolve compliance issues
  • Conducting and/or coordinating employee EH&S training programs
  • Participating in the investigation of industrial accidents and injuries
  • Conducting safety audits to identify workplace hazards and implementing engineering controls and best management practices
  • Overseeing the Laser Safety program
  • Providing Key Performance Indicators (KPI) using safety audit data
  • Collaborating with department leadership to complete Job Hazard Analysis and PPE determination
  • Overseeing the Hazardous Waste Management Program

Requirements include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental, Industrial Hygiene, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline
  • 6+ years of applicable experience
  • Strong knowledge and experience in interpreting, applying, and documenting federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations
  • Demonstrated knowledge of US EPA, California Air Resources Board, and local California air district regulations
  • Hands-on involvement with emergency response teams in incidents involving hazardous and non-hazardous material releases
