Job Overview

Position Title: Flight Simulator Technician

Department: Simulator Operations

Reporting To: Simulator Technical Manager, Lead Simulator Technician

POSITION OBJECTIVE:

The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure the operational integrity of Kalitta Air's Flight Simulator equipment, facilitating optimal availability for the company's training initiatives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following duties are essential to the position:

  1. Conduct daily pre-training inspections to ready the simulator for instructional sessions.
  2. Execute scheduled preventive maintenance on simulator apparatus, including assessments, calibrations, evaluations, and documentation.
  3. Oversee maintenance of visual display systems.
  4. Brief and debrief training crews regarding simulator conditions and any issues encountered.
  5. Document and resolve any discrepancies reported during training sessions.
  6. Review unresolved discrepancies and implement corrective measures.
  7. Troubleshoot a diverse range of simulation systems using appropriate diagnostic tools and technical resources.
  8. Repair and occasionally modify simulator systems and subsystems.
  9. Implement updates or modifications to simulator systems to align with current aircraft specifications.
  10. Thoroughly document all maintenance activities, including any alterations made to systems and subsystems.
  11. Maintain a clean training environment, including the simulator, computer room, hydraulic room, and adjacent areas.
  12. Perform tasks professionally while adhering to tight deadlines and minimal supervision.
  13. Interpret electronic, electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical schematics.
  14. Research and procure replacement components as necessary.
  15. May involve circuit board and simulated instrument repairs.
  16. Work rotating shifts to ensure 24/7 operational coverage.
  17. Occasional travel may be required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Possession of an electronic technical degree or a minimum of five years of experience in electronics or avionics, preferably within a flight simulator context.

LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY:

  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend spoken and written English. Capable of drafting routine reports and correspondence, as well as providing verbal and written instructions to team members.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Proficient in interpreting electronic, electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical schematics.
  2. Strong troubleshooting capabilities and extensive knowledge of electronic testing instruments.
  3. Experience in repairing circuit boards and simulated instruments is advantageous.
  4. Excellent communication skills.
  5. Able to collaborate effectively as part of a team.
  6. Capable of conveying technical information through clear and concise written reports and correspondence.
  7. Self-motivated, demonstrating a sense of urgency while maintaining attention to detail.
  8. Proficient in PC operations; familiarity with Unix-based systems and Fortran is a plus.

  • Frequent lifting or moving of up to 40 pounds; occasional lifting or moving of up to 100 pounds.

  • Regularly works near moving mechanical components, pressurized hydraulic systems, and vibrating equipment.
  • The noise level in the work environment is moderate.
  • There is a moderate risk of electrical shock.
