Assistant Professor of Journalism Practice

We are seeking an exceptional scholar and educator to join our faculty as a tenure-track assistant professor in the Hubbard School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Minnesota. The successful candidate will have a strong research agenda, a commitment to teaching and mentoring, and a passion for contributing to the development of our undergraduate and graduate programs in journalism and mass communication.
Responsibilities- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in journalism and mass communication, including interactive and data journalism, news reporting and writing, and other professionally-oriented journalism skills courses.
- Develop and maintain an active research program, with a focus on contemporary issues in journalism practice, artificial intelligence, data science, data visualization, and reporting on social issues.
- Contribute to the development of our undergraduate and graduate curriculum in journalism and mass communication, including the creation of new courses and programs.
- Advise and mentor students, including graduate students pursuing their M.A. and Ph.D. degrees.
- Participate in departmental and university service, including committee work and outreach activities.
- Ph.D. in Journalism, Mass Communication, or a related field by the date of appointment.
- Expertise in contemporary issues in journalism practice, including artificial intelligence, data science, data visualization, and reporting on social issues.
- Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in journalism and mass communication.
- Strong research agenda and publication record in top-tier journals.
- Commitment to teaching and mentoring, with a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
