Job Title: Ironworker - Wind - La Casa Wind Project

Mortenson is seeking a skilled Ironworker to join our team for the La Casa Wind Project. As an Ironworker, you will be responsible for installing and assembling structural steel components for wind turbines.

Responsibilities:
  • Mark, position, and secure structural steel members to reinforce concrete or building structures.
  • Set up, flag, and inspect cranes.
  • Inspect rigging properly.
  • Run a site level.
  • Check-in truck deliveries against bill of lading when load arrives.
  • Count bars and bundles of rebar, dobies, and wire mesh.
  • Direct forklift/crane to unload delivery truck.
  • Shake out rebar and distribute/organize accordingly.
  • Use pliers to tie rebar intersections with tie wire.
  • Splice mats or rebar sections together with short rebar dowels.
  • Understand building codes/requirements.
  • Cut excess rebar ends and miscellaneous pieces with gas cut saw or cutting torch.
  • Install mechanical rebar splices by bolting or welding ends together.
  • Install caps on vertical rebar dowels for safety.
  • Install rebar dowels into fresh concrete footings.
  • Determine number, size, shape, and location of reinforcing rods from blueprints, sketches, or oral instructions.
  • Bend steel rods with hand tools or rodbending machine.
  • Reinforce concrete with wire mesh.
Renewable Energy Group Accountabilities:
  • Receive and offload all major components.
  • Install loose components for Nacelle, hub, and tower preparation.
  • Connect blades to hub.
  • Set base and tower sections.
  • Manage taglines.
  • Involved with main erection crane assembly and teardown.
  • Climb ladders - average 80m.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to move levers, shift gears, depress pedals, and maneuver steering wheel to operate equipment.
  • Ability to frequently sit, stand, walk, crouch, kneel, climb, and periodically lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instruction, procedure manuals, and load charts.
  • Knowledge of equipment and their uses.
  • Understand and apply basic mathematical skills (adding, subtracting, division, & multiplication).
  • Strong teamwork orientation.
  • Positive attitude and professional customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Equipment certifications as required.
  • 1 year of related experience preferred.
  • Must possess valid driver's license of proper class and necessary endorsements as required by law.
  • Must have passed the Apprentice Aptitude Test.
