Job Summary

Bachman's is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Nursery Equipment Operator to join our team in the field production department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for operating a variety of equipment, including skid loaders, soil shredders, and semi-tractor/trailer trucks, to ensure the efficient and safe production of nursery stock.

Key Responsibilities
  • Equipment Operation: Safely and efficiently operate a range of equipment, including skid loaders, soil shredders, and semi-tractor/trailer trucks, to perform tasks such as mixing and applying fertilizers and pesticides, loading and hauling soil and rock, and grading nursery roads.
  • Maintenance and Repair: Perform routine light maintenance on equipment on a daily or scheduled basis to ensure it remains in safe working order. Communicate maintenance needs to shop personnel.
  • Chemical Application: Accurately mix and apply chemical pesticides and fertilizers as directed.
  • Field Maintenance: Perform field maintenance duties, including filling tree spade holes, grubbing, and hauling trees, as directed.
  • Transportation: Operate a dump truck over the road to haul various materials as directed.
  • Teamwork: Assist in other areas as directed and perform other duties in the nursery and wholesale departments as needed.
Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma plus two-year certificate in horticulture, equipment operation, or related field.
  • Experience: Two years' experience in operation of nursery/farm machinery and equipment, possibly including farm tractor, skid loader, forklift, front-end loader, tree spade, semi-tractor/trailer, or others.
  • Licenses and Certifications: Valid Class D Minnesota driver's license or equivalent. CDL license is recommended. May be required to obtain a chemical pesticide applicator's license.
  • Skills and Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of landscape plant materials commonly found in Minnesota landscapes. Conversational Spanish speaking ability preferred. MNLA Nursery Professional Certification preferred.
