We are in search of a dedicated Food Safety and Quality Assurance Manager to join our esteemed Food Safety and Quality team at our Distribution Centre in Laredo, Texas. This pivotal role is designed to provide leadership and strategic direction to ensure adherence to our corporate Safe Quality Foods plan.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and maintain the Safe Quality Food (SQF) Program at the designated distribution center.
  • Lead and supervise the food safety team, managing performance evaluations and providing ongoing feedback to promote excellence.
  • Act as the designated SQF Practitioner and Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI).
  • Monitor and report on Food Safety and Quality Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Assist facility management in achieving established Food Safety and Quality KPIs.
  • Conduct regular audits of the internal food safety program and product specifications, providing insights for continuous improvement.
  • Address critical food safety and quality issues promptly while ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Verify accurate record-keeping by Operations Staff for Food Safety System and Organics Compliance Plan.
  • Implement corrective actions and preventative measures for non-compliances and food safety incidents.
  • Facilitate training programs for staff, maintaining comprehensive training records.
  • Prepare and lead third-party, government, and customer audits.
  • Serve as the emergency contact for food safety-related issues, ensuring safe resolutions.
  • Maintain essential Food Safety System documents and databases.
  • Provide management with relevant FSS data and reports.
  • Act as the subject matter expert for food safety within the facility.
  • Participate as a member of the leadership team at the assigned facility.
  • Be available after hours for emergencies and technical issues in a 24/7 operational environment.
  • Experience in sanitation is considered an asset.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in food science, biological sciences, agriculture, or a related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of five to seven years of experience in Food Safety, Quality Assurance, or Management, with specific knowledge of SQF Systems and FSMA implementation.
  • At least five years of supervisory experience is preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Proven leadership and team motivation skills.
  • Experience in conducting traceability and recall exercises.
  • Current HACCP and PCQI certifications are required.
  • Quality certifications are considered an asset.
  • Auditing experience with the ability to interpret regulatory and audit documentation.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety and quality systems, including HACCP, ISO 9001, cGMP, and SQF.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical, time management, and organizational abilities.
  • Technical proficiency in data management and computer skills.
  • Focus on customer satisfaction, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to document corrective actions effectively.
  • Valid passport and driver's license are required.

Working Conditions:

  • Standard office environment with time spent in a refrigerated warehouse.
  • Position requires physical activities such as lifting, standing, walking, and bending.
  • Climbing platform ladders is necessary.
  • Manual dexterity is required for computer-related tasks.
