We are currently seeking a dedicated Rehabilitation Specialist to join our dynamic team. POSITION SUMMARY:

The Rehabilitation Specialist will assess patients' performance skills and design tailored programs aimed at enhancing their functional capabilities. This role involves collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals to determine the necessity of occupational therapy referrals, documenting patient progress for insurance purposes, and educating patients and their families about treatment procedures. The Specialist will also supervise support staff and participate in various departmental initiatives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Comply with all organizational policies, including job descriptions, licensure requirements, and patient confidentiality standards.
  2. Stay informed about organizational updates and directives.
  3. Deliver high-quality care to help patients achieve optimal function and quality of life in various settings by:
    1. Maintaining accurate and timely documentation of patient care and determining appropriate billing according to hospital policies.
    2. Meeting regulatory standards and adhering to all applicable laws.
  4. Engage in direct patient care activities, which include:
    1. Guiding clients through therapeutic exercises while overseeing routine care provided by support staff.
    2. Administering therapy services as per the treatment plan approved by the physician.
    3. Incorporating safety and emergency protocols into treatment plans.
    4. Adjusting treatment plans based on patient progress.
    5. Ensuring timely reassessments in accordance with regulatory standards.
    6. Communicating effectively with physicians and team members regarding patient outcomes.
    7. Involving patients and their families in discussions about care quality.
    8. Recommending and training on assistive devices to enhance patient functionality.
    9. Educating clients and families on treatment goals to maximize program effectiveness.
    10. Collaborating with team members to create comprehensive rehabilitation plans.
    11. Coordinating individual patient schedules with other staff.
    12. Participating in discharge planning and team meetings.
  5. Complete indirect patient care activities, including:
    1. Engaging in professional development through training and continuing education.
    2. Attending staff meetings and family conferences.
    3. Contributing to departmental program development.
    4. Maintaining a professional appearance in the workplace.
    5. Assisting colleagues as needed.
    6. Participating in community outreach to promote rehabilitation services.
    7. Training medical and nursing staff in therapy techniques.
    8. Supporting quality improvement initiatives.
    9. Completing assigned projects and reports punctually.
    10. Performing other reasonable duties as assigned.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

The ideal candidate must be a graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy program, have successfully passed the National Certification Examination for Occupational Therapists, hold a current Occupational Therapy license in the state, and be eligible for malpractice insurance.

EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of one year of relevant experience is preferred.

CONFIDENTIALITY:

This position may involve access to confidential patient records and requires compliance with HIPAA regulations.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The role requires physical and mental stamina, including:

  • Frequent standing, walking, and patient handling.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
  • Regular use of hands for various tasks.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases.
