Job Overview

Position Summary:

Steinway & Sons is in search of a skilled CNC Programmer to join our manufacturing team. This position involves the setup and operation of computer numerical control (CNC) machinery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and create CNC programs (3 to 5 axis) based on engineering models, drawings, and specifications.
  • Ensure the production of safe, precise, and efficient CNC programs, including necessary tools, fixtures, and setup requirements. Programs must align with factory capacity for setup and cycle time.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation to support CNC operations.
  • Conduct initial troubleshooting for CNC machining issues, including assessments of equipment and tooling, and assist maintenance personnel in diagnosing machine faults as needed.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as a CNC programmer, with at least 1 year of professional experience using Siemens NX.
  • Proficient in Siemens NX, AutoCAD, and CAD/CAM software – latest versions.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles is preferred.
  • Experience with various CNC controls, particularly FANUC.
  • Ability to read and write G and M code.
  • Fixture design and construction experience is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills and a proactive attitude.
  • Proficient in Windows operating systems and MS Office applications.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills related to machining and CNC processes.
  • Engagement in the implementation of new technologies, first article inspections, and ongoing programming optimization.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Capable of analyzing engineering models and drawings to determine machining operation sequences that meet design intent and component quality.
  • Skilled in selecting appropriate tooling, considering factors such as materials, speeds, tool types (cutting/drilling), feeds, and control systems.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing to develop tooling strategies that minimize setups and enhance efficiency.
  • Develop standard setup and in-process quality check sheets.
  • Actively participate in Continuous Improvement initiatives.
  • Ability to create simple electronic sketches (CAD) with dimensions for new tooling, fixtures, or part layouts.

The estimated annual base salary range for this position is $65,000-$75,000, plus an annual bonus. Compensation will vary based on skills and experience.
