The University of California, Irvine is seeking an exceptional Administrative Director of Research to join our team at the Susan Samueli Integrative Health Institute (SSIHI). As a key member of our leadership team, you will play a critical role in managing and providing technical direction for complex academic and research programs of high visibility.
Key Responsibilities- Independently manage and provide technical direction for research programs, collaborating with faculty leaders to direct the long-term vision and goals, policies, and procedures.
- Oversee the administrative operations of program(s) and manage a large research operational budget to achieve objectives.
- Recruit and retain industry leaders to partner with the research program in achieving the SSIHI's research goals.
- Develop and manage a membership program for industry partners and oversee the administrative operations for the BraveNet collaboration.
- Utilize highly specialized expertise in research or academic concepts and objectives to support faculty leaders in their research studies.
- Lead the SSIHI Research Core team, a growing team of staff and integrative health faculty with various and multiple research studies.
- Play a crucial role in clinical trials and SSIHI's various multisite, complex research trials, leading the design and implementation of trials to ensure they meet regulatory standards and scientific rigor.
- Academic or research background and recognized expertise in a selected area.
- Expert oral and written communication skills.
- Leadership experience in academic and/or government agencies.
- Demonstrated expertise in building collaborations between academia, industry, and/or governmental agencies.
- Expert ability to work with dynamic and diverse groups of faculty, staff, and students.
- Managerial experience and proven success in managing complex research or academic programs.
- Skills in organization and customer service to effectively manage multiple important priorities.
- Advanced degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
- Terminal degree in a related field (PhD, JD, MD, etc.).
- 5-7 years of relevant experience.
- Demonstrated expertise with program building within a leading academic institution and administrative, budgetary, human resources, and financial principles and practices.
- Strong negotiation skills and verbal and written communication skills; ability to influence/ persuade all levels of staff.
- Must be willing to occasionally work evenings or weekends.
