The Position
The City of Beaverton is seeking a knowledgeable Plans Examiner to become a vital part of the Building Division.
The Plans Examiner is responsible for evaluating construction documents for various types of buildings, including commercial, industrial, multi-family, and residential structures, ensuring adherence to all relevant codes, regulations, and ordinances. This role also involves collaboration with developers and contractors, participating in design and plan review discussions.
The Plans Examiner 2 will conduct reviews of projects that necessitate State of Oregon A-level Plans Examiner, A-level Mechanical Inspector, Residential Plans Examiner, and Fire and Life Safety Plans Examiner certifications.
This is a full-time, non-exempt position with one vacancy available.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough plan reviews for compliance with city ordinances and state building, mechanical, and fire codes within designated timeframes. Prepare detailed plan review reports.
- Approve or reject plans for permit issuance, identifying deficiencies and advising applicants on necessary modifications. Collaborate with applicants to resolve issues.
- Engage in pre-development and facility review meetings to address code-related concerns or plan discrepancies.
- Provide expert guidance to the public and construction professionals regarding code inquiries and the plan review process. Assist applicants in navigating the building permit system.
- Maintain organized records of applications and documentation. Input plan review data into the computer system and generate plan check correspondence as needed.
- Perform field inspections as required.
- Support permit technicians in processing permit applications.
- Coordinate with other divisions and governmental entities on commercial, industrial, and multi-family projects.
- Respond to code inquiries from the public, contractors, and design professionals via phone and in-person.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of division operational procedures.
- Additional responsibilities as outlined in the Plans Examiner 2 class specification.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate's degree in Building Inspection Technology or a related field; and
- Four years of progressively responsible experience in plans examination; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience that enables the incumbent to perform the essential functions of the position.
- Valid driver's license and ability to meet the city's driving standards.
- State of Oregon A-level Plans Examiner or ICC Building Plans Examiner certification.
- State of Oregon Fire Life Safety Plans Examiner or ICC Fire Plans Examiner certification.
- State of Oregon Residential Plans Examiner or ICC Residential Building Inspector certification.
- State of Oregon A-level Mechanical Inspector or ICC Commercial Mechanical Inspector certification.
- State of Oregon Inspector certification.
- Ability to pass reference checks and education verification, and meet background check requirements.
Wage Range: $50.24 hourly
