Information Governance Department Mission

The core mission of the Information Governance Department is to protect vital firm and client information, ensuring its accuracy and maximizing its utility. Our role is essential to the success of our legal practice. We act as the guardians of our partners' knowledge, connecting regulatory compliance, legal professionals, and our clients. Position Overview

The Information Governance Manager, as part of the Information Governance Department Management team, plays a pivotal role in advancing the Firm's information governance strategy. This position involves leading key functions related to the lifecycle management of the Firm's information assets. As a subject matter expert, the Information Governance Manager engages in process analysis to ensure compliance and efficiency across all departmental functions. This role encompasses oversight and management of daily operations and information governance tasks, including team supervision and support. Utilizing industry-standard methodologies and cutting-edge information governance technologies, the Information Governance Manager provides both internal and external support to securely manage the disposition of the Firm's client and business administrative records, thereby mitigating risks to the Firm and its clients.

Essential Job Functions

  • Oversees training for IG team members.
  • Manages task assignments for IG team members.
  • Assists in setting performance expectations for IG team members, evaluates their performance, and provides ongoing feedback.
  • Coaches and mentors IG team members to enhance their performance.
  • Oversees daily operations of the IG Department, including digital file conversion, IG Network File Share Management, and retention implementation.
  • Ensures process compliance, conducts quality control, and tracks production.
  • Assists in IG process analysis and strategic planning for the department.
  • Maintains and analyzes the records management system to support the integrity of the Firm's hardcopy file inventory.
  • Acts as project manager for all records and information management-related projects.
  • Manages outbound file transfer processes, including searches, collections, reviews, and secure transfers for both hardcopy and electronic files.
  • Manages inbound file transfer processes, including reviews, indexing, and secure imports for both hardcopy and electronic files.
  • May require occasional travel to various firm offices as necessary.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Preferred candidates will have an educational background in disciplines such as library science, information technology, information management, or related fields. An undergraduate degree from an accredited institution is preferred, though a combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • A minimum of two years of supervisory or management experience is required.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in records management and/or information governance within a legal environment is required.
  • Preferred certifications include Certified Records Manager or Information Governance Professional.
  • Advanced knowledge of information governance principles, practices, and technologies is essential.
  • Demonstrated experience with legal hold management, retention implementation, and lifecycle management of client-related files is necessary.
  • Proficiency in Records Management Systems is preferred, with a working knowledge of FileTrail being advantageous.
  • Proficiency in Document Management Systems is preferred, particularly with a working knowledge of NetDocuments in a legal context.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in electronic file management are required.
  • Proficiency in project management methodologies is essential.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Visio) is required.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
