The Family Support Advocate (FSA) plays a crucial role within the Mental Health Outreach and Treatment Services (MHOTRS) and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). The FSA collaborates with the team to provide essential Family Peer Support and Training Services.
Service DescriptionFamily Peer Support and Training Services encompass both formal and informal assistance tailored for families whose children face social, emotional, medical, developmental, substance use, and/or behavioral challenges. These services are designed to empower families, enabling them to actively engage in their child's treatment and service planning.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe FSA is responsible for:
- Delivering training and support that fosters family involvement in the treatment process.
- Reinforcing skills learned during service access to ensure effective implementation.
To be considered for this position, candidates should meet the following criteria:
- Possess a minimum of a high school education, with preference given to those holding a High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Self-identify as having relevant lived experience as a primary caregiver for a child with mental health, juvenile justice, special education, or foster care needs, or as someone in recovery from substance use.
- Fulfill the qualifications set forth by the NYS Office of Mental Health to be eligible for Family Peer Advocate credentialing.
