Job Summary

The Private Events Operations Assistant is a key member of the Memphis Zoo team, responsible for ensuring the smooth execution of all events booked through Mane Event Catering. This role requires strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work closely with management and other departments to deliver exceptional guest experiences.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate banquet set up, including room, food, linens, and other event details.
  • Monitor event areas for cleanliness and maintenance issues, working with custodial and maintenance teams as needed.
  • Attend and participate in weekly meetings, including Sales and Operations meetings.
  • Display a strong sense of urgency and ability to remain calm under stressful circumstances.
  • Maintain regular communication with all Zoo departments.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and prioritize tasks effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2 years of related experience in event operations or a related field.
  • Proficiency in catering software, such as Caterease.
  • ABC or TIPS certification in alcohol service.
Competencies
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Point of Sale Systems, and data management.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing circumstances.
Work Environment

The Private Events Operations Assistant will work in a professional office setting, with occasional exposure to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is low to moderately loud when on Zoo grounds and during Private Events.

Physical Demands

The physical demands of this role include frequent sitting, talking, and hearing, as well as constant use of hands and fingers to feel, handle, or operate objects, tools, or controls. The employee may be required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and walk, and may need to stand and walk for long periods of time. Ability to lift and move up to 50lbs is also required.
