Job Summary
The successful candidate will be responsible for promoting dental health by completing dental prophylaxis, providing oral cancer screening and radiographic studies, charting conditions of decay and disease, and performing procedures in compliance with the dental practice act.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for dental hygiene treatment by welcoming, soothing, seating, and draping patients
- Maintain instrumentation for dental hygiene treatment by sharpening, sterilizing, and selecting instruments
- Properly capture digital radiographs that are diagnostic (root apices/no overlapping). Radiographs properly labeled
- Complete dental prophylaxis by cleaning deposits and stains from teeth and from beneath gum margins
- Detect disease by completing oral cancer screening; feeling and visually examining gums; using probes to locate periodontal disease and to assess levels of recession; exposing and developing radiographic studies
- Maintain dental supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies
- Document dental hygiene services by recording vital signs, medical, and dental histories charting in patient records
- Complete med consults as directed by dentist. Faxed to patient's PCP and follows set clinic policies. (note in chart, scanned, follow up)
Requirements
- Education: Associate degree in Dental Hygiene (Bachelor's degree preferred)
- Experience: A minimum of 3-years preferred
- Expertise: must be qualified in Basic Life Support techniques/CPR
