Maintenance Mechanic II Job Description

About the Role:

The Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium is seeking a skilled Maintenance Mechanic II to join our team. As a key member of our maintenance department, you will be responsible for performing a variety of general repairs to existing infrastructure and systems, as well as other maintenance duties such as painting and building basic structures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform general maintenance on Zoo & Aquarium buildings, animal exhibits, and guest areas, including basic repairs, painting, and building basic structures (70% of time)
  • Assist other maintenance staff with completion of generated work orders related to various mechanical trades, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, welding, HVAC, etc. (20% of time)
  • Assist maintenance manager in implementing and executing preventive maintenance programs (5% of time)
  • Assist with snow removal during winter months (5% of time)

Requirements:

  1. Education & Formal Training: High school diploma or equivalent required
  2. Experience: Minimum of 5 years general maintenance or carpentry experience desired; knowledge of and experience using various power tools and maintenance equipment
  3. Other Minimum Requirements: Must have valid driver's license; must be able to lift 75 pounds and have sufficient mobility to ensure a safe work environment; must be able to stand for extended periods of time, climb, bend, and stoop; must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and evening hours, in all weather extremes; must pass a background and drug screening
