Job Title: Linguistics Teaching Associate

Fresno State is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual to serve as a Teaching Associate in the Department of Linguistics.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing classroom instruction, maintaining office hours, and performing other assignments supportive of university instruction.

Responsibilities:
  • Teach beginning courses in linguistics via face-to-face or online instruction
  • Maintain office hours to support students
  • Classroom and/or laboratory instruction
  • Making assignments to students
  • Preparing course materials
  • Administering examinations
  • Assessing student performance, including determining course grades
  • Assisting students outside of class or laboratory hours
  • Attending meetings scheduled by the faculty for purposes of briefing, coordination, and discussion of course content and materials
  • Evaluate student work
Qualifications:
  • Admission to the Linguistics Program in the Department of Linguistics, in good academic standing
  • Enrollment in at least 6-units for the semester or in two courses toward the degree
  • Demonstrated, satisfactory progress towards the degree
  • Ability to relate well with others within the academic environment and have the ability or potential to learn how to instruct and evaluate students
  • Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Evidence of subject matter competence
  • Communication skills appropriate to the instructional setting
  • Ability and willingness to work with computers, including common word-processing software, and computer and internet-based language teaching technology
