Key Responsibilities:

  • Underwrite contract bonds for a designated territory, utilizing knowledge of required and normal ratios, risks associated with various types of construction activities, and industry norms.
  • Conduct marketing efforts to strategically build a profitable book of business, including identifying and capturing new business opportunities.
  • Develop and implement tactical sales plans to achieve budgeted financial results, track results, and execute necessary corrective action.
  • Participate in projects that impact the business, providing guidance and coaching to others as needed.
  • Identify and mitigate risks, making quick and sound decisions under minimal supervision.
  • Negotiate terms and conditions consistent with underwriting authority limits and standards.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in an underwriting capacity, with a solid understanding of contract and subdivision bond underwriting.
  • Ability to write and articulate complex information in a concise and clear manner.
  • Self-sufficient with demonstrated ability to overcome obstacles and take ownership of decisions and outcomes.
  • US Work Authorization required. Markel does not provide visa sponsorship for this position.
