Job Summary: The Project Engineer is responsible for planning, designing, and overseeing engineering projects from inception to completion within the energy utility sector. This role involves coordinating with various teams, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations, managing resources, and delivering projects on time and within budget.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Project Planning and Design:
    • Develop detailed project plans, including timelines, resource allocation, and budget estimates.
    • Design engineering solutions for energy infrastructure projects, such as power generation, transmission, and distribution systems.
    • Prepare technical drawings, specifications, and documentation required for project execution.
  2. Project Management:
    • Oversee the execution of projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within scope, and on budget.
    • Coordinate with internal teams, including engineering, procurement, construction, and operations, to ensure seamless project execution.
    • Manage project schedules, monitor progress, and adjust plans as needed to address any delays or changes in scope.
  3. Technical Support:
    • Provide technical expertise and support throughout the project lifecycle, including troubleshooting and resolving engineering challenges.
    • Ensure that engineering designs comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental guidelines.
    • Review and approve technical documents, such as drawings, calculations, and reports, to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  4. Budget and Resource Management:
    • Assist in the preparation and management of project budgets, including cost estimates, procurement of materials, and allocation of resources.
    • Monitor project expenditures and work closely with the finance team to ensure financial control and accountability.
  5. Regulatory Compliance and Safety:
    • Ensure that all projects comply with relevant local, state, and federal regulations, including environmental and safety standards.
    • Collaborate with the Safety and Compliance teams to integrate safety protocols into project execution and design.
    • Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies to minimize project risks.
  6. Stakeholder Communication:
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for project stakeholders, including clients, contractors, suppliers, and regulatory bodies.
    • Prepare and deliver regular project status reports, presentations, and updates to stakeholders and management.
    • Facilitate meetings and communications between project teams and stakeholders to ensure alignment and transparency.
  7. Quality Assurance:
    • Implement and maintain quality assurance processes to ensure that all project deliverables meet or exceed established quality standards.
    • Conduct inspections and testing of materials, equipment, and systems to verify compliance with project specifications.
  8. Continuous Improvement:
    • Identify opportunities for process improvements and innovations in project design and execution.
    • Implement best practices in project management and engineering to enhance overall project efficiency and effectiveness.
    • Participate in post-project reviews to capture lessons learned and apply them to future projects.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field. A Master's degree or Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in project engineering, preferably within the energy or utility industry.
    • Proven experience in managing complex engineering projects from concept to completion.
    • Experience with power generation, transmission, and distribution systems is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge:
    • Strong knowledge of engineering principles, practices, and standards within the energy sector.
    • Familiarity with relevant codes, regulations, and industry standards (e.g., IEEE, NEC, ASME).
    • Knowledge of project management methodologies, such as PMI or PRINCE2, is advantageous.
  • Skills:
    • Excellent project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on delivering practical and effective solutions.
    • Proficiency in engineering design software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera).
    • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Certifications:
    • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent is preferred.
    • Additional certifications related to energy engineering or project management are a plus.
  • Technical Requirements:
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for reporting and presentations.
    • Familiarity with SCADA systems, GIS, and other utility-specific software is advantageous.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to conduct site visits and inspections, which may involve working in various weather conditions, climbing ladders, and navigating industrial environments.
  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessary.

Working Conditions:

  • The position may require occasional travel to project sites and facilities.
  • Must be available for on-call support during project execution phases.

Salary and Benefits:

GP Energy offers a competitive salary, comprehensive benefits package, and opportunities for professional growth and development. The salary for this position is from $80,000 to $100,000.
