Job Title: Shelter Monitor

Job Summary:

The Shelter Monitor is a critical role at the Low Income Housing Institute, responsible for maintaining a safe and clean environment for program participants. This position requires strong communication and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Environmental Stewardship: Foster a safe, clean, and peaceful environment in the shelter, ensuring the well-being of all participants.
  • Client Support: Assist participants with move-in and move-out paperwork, monitor individuals entering and exiting the shelter, and maintain logs and incident reports.
  • Community Outreach: Provide outreach and information to neighborhood residents, handle donations, and serve as an on-site presence in the shelter.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with Shelter Organizers, the on-site Case Manager, and the Shelter Operations Manager to ensure seamless operations.
  • Light Maintenance: Perform light maintenance and janitorial tasks in common areas, entry, kitchen, community space, bathrooms, grounds, and the perimeter of the shelter.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain inventory of basic supplies and order supplies as needed.
  • Emergency Response: Respond to emergencies, including fires and injuries, and alert LIHI staff and management of incidents and safety concerns.

Requirements:

  • Proven Ability: Proven ability to work with minimal supervision and maintain a high level of professionalism.
  • Experience: One year of maintenance, customer service, and/or management experience.
  • Cultural Competence: Demonstrated ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds, with sensitivity to cultural, racial, gender, mental health, and class issues.
  • Problem-Solving: Excellent problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Communication: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with participants, staff, and management.
  • Certifications: Must pass criminal background checks and drug screening tests.
