Position Overview:
Gannett Fleming is seeking a skilled Principal Geotechnical Engineer to oversee both the technical and commercial dimensions of our operations. This role entails providing expert guidance and oversight on substantial, intricate projects. Proficiency is essential in areas such as dam and levee safety, foundation engineering, seismic assessments—including the determination of design ground motions and the evaluation of liquefaction risks—and slope stability analysis. Additionally, the role encompasses general geotechnical engineering for hydropower infrastructures, including penstocks, diversion structures, pipelines, and levees.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define project scope, resources, timelines, and budgetary requirements for significant and/or complex assignments.
- Independently design and lead the execution of major projects.
- Manage and coordinate large-scale projects with multi-disciplinary teams and external partners.
- Utilize extensive knowledge of engineering principles to evaluate and apply appropriate techniques and analyses.
- Provide construction support services, including assisting clients with bidding processes and overseeing construction activities.
- Review project documentation to ensure compliance and quality assurance.
- Engage in business development to expand client relationships and pursue new opportunities.
- Collaborate with diverse teams for project capture and execution.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, understanding their needs and managing expectations.
- Lead and mentor technical staff to foster a high-performing team.
- Innovate and enhance engineering techniques and processes.
- Facilitate project meetings and present engineering findings.
- Represent the organization in communications and conferences related to engineering projects.
- Delegate tasks and supervise junior consultants and technicians.
- Train staff on specialized software and applications.
- Assist senior management in executing business initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution; a Master's degree is preferred.
- A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in geotechnical engineering.
- Demonstrated project management experience within multi-disciplinary teams.
- Professional Engineering license in California or a state with comity.
- Geotechnical Engineering license in California.
- In-depth knowledge of geotechnical engineering principles, particularly in foundation design and seismic hazard evaluation.
- Familiarity with landslide stabilization techniques is advantageous.
- Proficient in preparing and reviewing reports, plans, specifications, and estimates.
- Competent in using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MS Office, and related software.
- Experience with specialized analysis software (e.g., Flac, GeoStudio, Mathcad).
