Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Designer IV to join our team at Austal USA. As a key member of our design team, you will be responsible for creating 2D and 3D drawings, checking and reviewing technical adequacy of drawings, and working closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality designs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain 2D and 3D drawings and models using AutoCAD and ShipConstructor.
  • Check and review technical adequacy of drawings created by junior designers.
  • Collaborate with production management, design teams, and external partners to ensure design meets customer requirements.
  • Provide input to evaluations of junior designers and CAD drafters.
  • Lead the work of CAD drafters and designers, setting schedules and providing direction as needed.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associates Degree or higher in CAD preferred.
  • 8 years minimum of 3D modeling experience.
  • 10 years of shipyard design or production/construction experience or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Understanding of scheduling and ability to adhere to strict deadlines.
  • Computer literate and familiar with Microsoft Office products.
  • Experience using 2D and 3D AutoCAD, ShipConstructor, and Navisworks.
