Responsibilities

As a Pharmacy Technician I, you will practice family-centered nursing according to policies and the Nurse Practice Act, serving as Charge Nurse when assigned. You will supervise, plan, evaluate, and coordinate patient care provided by other licensed and non-licensed staff, demonstrating CPR according to American Heart Association standards. You will abide by and enforce all compliance requirements and policies, performing these responsibilities in an ethical manner consistent with the organization's values. You will adhere to hospital policies, including confidentiality, and serve as a preceptor for new employees and nursing students. You will utilize the nursing process to assess patients, plan individual care, identify expected outcomes, implement and evaluate nursing interventions for patients and families, and perform therapeutic procedures and assist with diagnostic procedures required for patient care. You will administer medications, including controlled substances, by all routes, administer blood and blood products, respond appropriately to emergency patient situations, and perform basic life support and management of arrest situations. You will start IVs, perform activities of daily living, and utilize proper body mechanics when moving, positioning, and transferring patients without assistance or with assistance when needed for patient safety. You will provide patient education by planning, coordinating, and delegating, as appropriate, the educational needs of each patient, and utilize a personal computer or terminal to access the Clinical Information System. You will communicate and use appropriate customer relation skills with physicians, patients, families, and healthcare team in person and via telephone, respond to overhead pages, complete pain assessment tools, discharge forms, and MAR, and supervise, evaluate, and finalize the patient care record. You will complete all mandatory unit, educational, and hospital requirements, utilize cost-effective practices in performing all aspects of the job, adhere to current Infection Control and Safety Standards, and demonstrate the ability to provide competent patient care to the applicable patient population(s) based on the area of clinical care to include stroke patients when necessary. You will utilize and care for all types of CVLs, including PICC/Midlines, maintain current knowledge base of all unit policies and procedures, equipment location, and supplies, identify, organize, and direct activities to utilize resources, personnel, and materials to meet the needs of the patient and nursing staff, communicate with the Nurse Manager and Nurse Administrator on an ongoing basis regarding changes in the unit status, patient-related issues, Quality Management issues, and other events as they evolve, and act as the first line in problem resolution with other departments and any complaints. You will assist with shift duty assignments, verify that emergency equipment is functional, ensure that narcotic counts are complete and accurate, participate in Performance Improvement activities as assigned, access and accurately maintain electronic and paper medical records, and maintain regular and prompt attendance, ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required, and related duties as required.

Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent and registry with the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician are required.
