Job Summary

USA Health is seeking a skilled Medical Technologist I PRN to join our team. As a Medical Technologist I PRN, you will be responsible for examining and performing testing on blood, bodily fluids, tissue, and other specimens to aid in diagnosis.

Responsibilities

  • Operate complex instruments to test biological specimens
  • Evaluate and solve problems related to collection and processing of biological specimens for analysis
  • Follow standard procedures to perform routine, timed, and STAT moderate and complex laboratory tests
  • Recognize deviation from expected results and take appropriate action
  • Maintain instruments by performing maintenance procedures and calibration
  • Operate and utilize necessary programs on the Laboratory Information System (LIS), Hospital Information System (HIS), or PC
  • Analyze quality control data, evaluating the results and taking appropriate action to maintain accuracy and precision
  • Document results or actions in writing and by computer
  • Report all critical values following laboratory protocol
  • Draw blood specimens from patients
  • Work as a generalist to include Blood Bank and Flow Cytometry
  • Monitor the work pending log of designated section and document action taken
  • Maintain a neat and efficient work area by cleaning bench tops, equipment/instruments, and replenishing supplies in a timely manner
  • Teach instrument operation or procedures to Clinical Laboratory Science students or new employees as assigned
  • Follow procedures for hazardous waste management
  • Document customer complaints, testing or reporting errors, and present to supervisor for corrective action
  • Participate in continuing education activities
  • Participate in proficiency testing programs
  • Adhere to hospital policies and to current Infection Control and Safety Standards
  • Utilize proper body mechanics when moving, positioning, and transferring patients with or without assistance when needed for patient safety and when moving equipment/supplies necessary to perform essential functions
  • Communicate and use appropriate customer relations skills with physicians, patients, families, and healthcare team in person and via the telephone
  • Respond to overhead pages
  • Participate on committees as assigned
  • Participate in Performance Improvement activities as assigned
  • Regular and prompt attendance
  • Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree with major course work in Medical Technology from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama and registry eligible with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists as a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist.
