Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Catering Chef/Instructor to join our team at the IRWIN A AND ROBERT D GOODMAN COMMUNITY CENTER. This is a regular, full-time position that requires a calm and instructive demeanor, a positive attitude, and excellent interpersonal skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement clear shift plans and instructions for BOH event staff to ensure proper execution of catering menus for each event.
  • Collaborate with Hospitality and TEENworks management to provide training, supervision, and mentorship to teen staff in order to create excellent food, service, and maintain cleaning standards.
  • Support teens' ongoing success with prompt and constructive feedback.
  • Work with Catering Line Cook to inventory, rotate, and order supplies for back of house operations.
  • Maintain recipe records and costing to facilitate teen education and kitchen operations.
  • Maintain food cost at or below 28% of revenue costs.
  • Maintain food safety standards and documentation.
  • Scheduling teens and Catering Line Cook.
  • Foster a team environment between both the Catering front of house and TEENworks by always maintaining professional, respectful communication and collaboration.
  • Attend weekly catering meeting and other meetings as required.
  • Evaluate and update menus.
  • Provide backup support to Program Kitchen when needed.
Requirements
  • At least 3 years of experience in BOH catering and/or banquet setting.
  • At least 2 years of management experience.
  • Must have a ServSafe Manager Level Certification or be able to obtain one within 60 days of employment.
  • Experience creating and scaling recipes.
  • Ability to work with and train diverse teens.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills: Outlook, Word, & Excel.
  • Valid Driver's license and transportation.
  • Ability to stand/walk entire shift; ability to lift 50 lbs., reach overhead, bend, squat, twist, reach, grasp, pinch, and grip.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate of a culinary program.
  • Experience working in an education or training setting.
  • Experience scheduling, ordering, and inventory.
  • Experience and understanding of Diversity Equity & Inclusion (DEI) practices.
  • Knowledge of state and federal minor employee laws.
