POSITION SUMMARY

The Southern Queens Parks Association is seeking an enthusiastic individual to fill the role of Activity Specialist within the P.S. 35Q Nathaniel Woodhull School COMPASS program. This initiative, part of the Comprehensive Afterschool System (COMPASS) of NYC, caters to students in grades K-12. The SONYC model, which stands for School's Out NYC, specifically targets middle school students, providing them with structured, engaging activities that foster personal growth and academic success.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Activity Specialist should possess a passion for working with youth and demonstrate proficiency in various disciplines or specific program activities, including but not limited to dance, drama, STEAM, and sports. This role involves designing age-appropriate activities and monitoring student development. Additionally, the Activity Specialist will offer academic support tailored to the individual needs of students. Responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring the safety and supervision of students during program hours.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and functionality of all equipment and facilities in accordance with program standards.
  • Encouraging independent thinking and collaboration among students.
  • Providing constructive feedback on student progress.
  • Facilitating orderly transitions between activities.
  • Demonstrating comprehensive knowledge of the curriculum and effective instructional strategies while collaborating with staff.
  • Participating in staff evaluations and training sessions.
  • Offering guidance and support to program participants, staff, and volunteers.
  • Maintaining open communication with parents and reporting any incidents to supervisors.
  • Documenting daily records of activities and incidents.
  • Completing additional tasks as assigned by supervisory staff.

COMPENSATION

  • This is a part-time, in-person position with a pay rate of $19 per hour.
