Position Overview:
  • Responsible for delivering patient food services on designated units, including menu choices, tray assembly, delivery, and retrieval, as well as accommodating special requests and needs.
  • Demonstrates a warm, compassionate demeanor towards patients while introducing the Catering to You program, taking menu selections, delivering trays, and following up during catering rounds.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Collects patients' menu selections prior to each meal.
  • Adheres to food and nutrition guidelines for special, modified diets to ensure that food preferences align with dietary restrictions.
  • Provides alternative menu options as permitted by prescribed diets, considering food allergies, sensitivities, and cultural preferences when patients request additional selections.
  • Assembles trays accurately and promptly according to patients' menu selections.
  • Collaborates with nursing staff to ensure accurate diet prescriptions and meet patients' food requirements.
  • Conducts catering rounds after tray delivery to check if patients need anything further.
  • Retrieves trays from patients' rooms shortly after completing rounds.
  • Keeps precise and up-to-date records for each patient on assigned units.
  • Assists dietitians in monitoring patients who are NPO, on liquid diets, or have calorie counts ordered.
  • Communicates any patient-related issues or concerns to the appropriate personnel promptly, following departmental protocols.
General Job Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 3 months of experience in food service.
  • Ability to follow both oral and written instructions.
  • Capable of working collaboratively with colleagues, supervisors, and other departments, as well as with visitors and patients.
  • Previous experience in dietary or food services is preferred.
  • Proficient in reading and writing in English.
  • Sanitation certification is preferred.
