We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Engineer to join our team at the City of Durham's Department of Water Management. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing and overseeing various water and wastewater treatment projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities:- Manage and oversee water and wastewater treatment projects from inception to completion
- Develop and administer contracts, project scope, budgets, and schedules
- Provide technical expertise and consultation to City departments and external agencies
- Oversee data collection and analysis, maintain records, logs, and databases
- Design, implement, and evaluate special projects
- Manage projects, programs, and assigned department operations
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or a directly related field
- A minimum of five years of engineering experience in the water/wastewater industry or a closely related field
- A North Carolina Professional Engineer Registration or equivalent as determined by the City (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire)
- Valid North Carolina Class "C" Driver's License
- 2 or more years of experience managing public bids for water/wastewater capital projects
- Knowledge of methods used in design and operation of water/wastewater treatment plants and/or dams
- Knowledge of applicable laws and regulatory codes relevant to design, permitting, and operation of water/wastewater treatment plants and/or dams
