In this role, you will be responsible for marketing and underwriting Sentry's diverse range of products and services to selected independent agents and brokers within a designated territory.

Key Responsibilities

As a Territory Underwriting Specialist, your primary focus will be on fostering relationships with agents and brokers. The ideal candidate will operate remotely while residing in the Northern Texas area, collaborating closely with our regional office.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Identifying and soliciting accounts through selected agents and brokers.
  • Assessing, underwriting, and pricing potential accounts for independent agents.
  • Acting as the main point of contact for assigned agents and brokers.
  • Providing expert sales support to enhance production through agency channels.
  • Collaborating with agents and brokers to resolve issues effectively.

Additionally, you will:

  • Engage with appointed commercial lines independent agents to solicit accounts, respond to inquiries, and pursue referrals.
  • Analyze the quality and volume of risks underwritten while managing a portfolio of business within your authority limits.
  • Initiate and implement market development strategies to enhance segmentation, penetration, sales, and profitability.
  • Evaluate prospective accounts and independent agencies to determine their suitability, working closely with management and various functional units.
  • Provide exceptional service and support to assigned accounts and agencies, ensuring collaboration with Loss Control, Claims, and Operations.
  • Promote Sentry's offerings to both existing and potential clients.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in multi-line middle market underwriting, particularly in sectors such as construction, manufacturing, wholesale, real estate, and services.
  • Familiarity with the Northern Texas market and established relationships with independent agents.
  • Prior technical insurance experience, ideally with a sales focus.
  • Experience in underwriting complex accounts.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
  • Strong skills in business development and pipeline management.
  • Willingness to travel for business development activities.
  • A valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
