Job Summary

The VETERANS HEALTH ADMINISTRATION is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief of Surgery to lead the Surgical Service at our facility. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for providing strategic direction and oversight to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care and exceptional service to our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and direction to the Surgical Service, ensuring alignment with VHA goals and objectives.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve patient outcomes, reduce costs, and enhance the overall quality of care.
  • Collaborate with other departments and services to ensure seamless coordination and communication.
  • Ensure compliance with VHA policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain a high-performing team of surgeons and support staff.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest medical advancements and best practices in surgery.
Requirements
  • Board certification in surgery.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with experience in a similar role.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a VA or similar healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of VHA policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with quality improvement initiatives and patient safety programs.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and populations.
