Job Title: Residential Counselor

Job Summary:

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Residential Counselor to join our team at Downtown Emergency Service Center. As a Residential Counselor, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals with severe and persistent mental illness and substance use disorders in our Permanent Supportive Housing Projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide daily support and guidance to residents, promoting their overall well-being and independence.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff to coordinate services and develop individualized plans for residents.
  • Engage residents in on-site activities, therapeutic support groups, and community meetings to foster a sense of community and connection.
  • Manage building operations, including monitoring security systems, checking visitors in and out, and responding to maintenance requests.
  • Intervene in crises and respond to emergencies, ensuring the safety and well-being of residents and staff.

Requirements:

  • Basic understanding of homelessness and the challenges faced by homeless adults.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff and residents from diverse backgrounds.
  • Subscription to a philosophy of cooperation and continuity across programs, with a focus on respect and consideration for clients.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BA degree in social or behavioral science.
  • Residential property management experience.
  • Experience working with individuals with mental illness and substance use disorders.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands of this role include sitting, communicating with others, lifting and carrying items weighing up to 40 pounds, and operating computer hardware systems. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this job.
