Job Summary

As a Senior Electrical Engineer at Public Service Enterprise Group, you will lead and manage project engineering efforts for assigned multiple electrical switching and substation projects. Your expertise in electrical substation and switching station planning, design, construction, and substation equipment will be essential in ensuring the successful execution of these projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interface with technical disciplines, project management, and construction teams to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Develop project scoping documents, engineering schedules, and cost estimates to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Assist in the development of cost-effective and reliable station layouts, one-line control drawings, protective relay, SCADA, and monitoring schemes.
  • Provide technical support during construction and commissioning stages, resolving complex technical problems and providing solutions.
  • Contribute to the development of specifications for equipment purchase and perform engineering calculations for substation grounding grid, station battery sizing, lightning protection, voltage drop, SL&P transformer sizing, Arc flash, Cable Pull, Illumination, etc.
  • Review and approve licensing and permit packages, construction drawings, and control and layout construction and equipment vendor drawings to ensure compliance with engineering standards, construction standards, and safety codes.
  • Support strategic management initiatives and contribute to setting direction for the organization on technical issues.
  • Supervise and mentor junior project engineers, perform technical presentations, and procure miscellaneous materials.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with a power background.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in public electric utility high voltage substation engineering, with knowledge of electrical substation and switching station planning, design, construction, and substation equipment.
  • Prior experience as a lead project engineer on large-scale utility substation projects.
  • Working knowledge of utility best practices, IEEE, ASME, NEC, NESC, and NEMA standards.
  • Leadership skills, professionalism, and customer/client focus.
  • Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills, strong planning and organizing skills, adaptability, and results orientation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • On-call 24/7 hours to handle emergency replacement work and assist during system emergencies.
  • Strong computer skills in MS Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications
  • M.S. in Electrical Engineering with a power background and extensive technical training.
  • P.E. License.
  • Familiarity with substation equipment and operations.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with utility regulations, utility operation, standards codes, and engineering principles.
