The Office of the Chief Technology Officer at The Aerospace Corporation is dedicated to introducing innovative solutions to the space sector through technology awareness, pioneering concepts, and swift prototyping. This office comprises three divisions that deliver transformative solutions to our clients: Engineering, Science and Technology Hubs, the innovation lab – iLab, and the prototyping lab – xLab. Aerospace Corp. Fabrication Services operates an internal machine shop that supplies machined components for the entire organization. These components include satellite and space-based parts, vacuum systems, items utilized in physical science laboratories, and various other science-related applications.

Work Model: This is a full-time position requiring 100% onsite work.

Key Responsibilities:

Your role will involve independently executing programming, machine setups, and operating all standard shop equipment, including CNC mills, CNC lathes, and auxiliary machinery. You will be tasked with machining standard metallic alloys, ceramics, plastics, and specialized materials such as Invar, Inconel, and Molybdenum. Additionally, you will perform inspections of components using precision measuring instruments.

Essential Qualifications - Machinist Fabrication IV:

Minimum Requirements:

  • 7-10 years of relevant experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Proficiency in Mastercam (programming experience is essential)
  • Ability to interpret detailed prints, sketches, or verbal instructions
  • Familiarity with GD&T tolerancing
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance issued by the U.S. government; U.S. citizenship is necessary for clearance eligibility.

Preferred Qualifications:

It would be advantageous if you possess experience with:

  • Waterjet cutting
  • Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM)

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
  • Proficiency in using a computer for task completion
  • Effective communication with individuals and groups in person, via phone, and through telepresence
  • Typically, work will be conducted in a lab environment.
