About This Opportunity

Kansas State University is seeking a highly qualified individual to fill a one-year full-time position as a Teaching Assistant Professor of Classical Studies. This role offers a unique opportunity to serve as the interim director of the Classics program, teaching a range of courses, and contributing to departmental service initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as interim director of the Classics program, overseeing program development and implementation.
  • Teach a total of 6 courses over the academic year, including Latin language instruction, Classical literature in translation, and ancient history.
  • Supervise a graduate teaching assistant and undergraduate student workers.
  • Contribute to departmental service initiatives, promoting diversity and inclusion in the department.
Requirements
  • Ph.D. or ABD in Classical Studies or a related field.
  • Ability to teach Latin, literature in translation, and history courses at all levels of our curriculum.
  • Ability to work autonomously to direct the Classics program within a department of Modern and Classical languages.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. obtained by August 2024.
  • Passion for program building and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Experience with or well-developed ideas about pedagogical innovation and diversity in teaching Latin and Classical Studies.
