Heavy Equipment Technician

Job Summary
The Heavy Tech I will be responsible for performing vehicle maintenance, troubleshooting diesel and gasoline-power equipment, and shop facility duties. This role may require occasional travel to various shops and locations across the Los Angeles County area.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform automotive skill level I, preventive maintenance for diesel and gasoline-powered equipment, and troubleshoot electrical, ignition, fuel injection systems, and charging systems.
- Inspect and repair exhaust systems, air brake systems, and inspect-repair suspension components, including alignment and tire replacement.
- Troubleshoot, repair, and replace hydraulic systems, including PTO, hoses, and hydraulic cylinders.
- Perform quick-fixed maintenance, patch-repair, and replace tires, install/replace windshield wipers and light bulbs.
- Troubleshoot and repair Electric Vehicles (EV) and hybrid models.
- Assist the Detail Technician with washing and polishing customer vehicles and removing decals when required.
- Park, jump-start, pick up, and deliver County vehicles as needed to any vendor or County facility.
- Perform fuel pump maintenance and repairs, check fuel levels, and maintain up-to-date inventories.
- Maintain daily vehicle accountability, parked location, lane, and vehicle status.
- Pick up and deliver vehicles to County, Centerra Integrated facilities, and any vendors as required.
- Road-test vehicles on public streets and highways when required and drive to any of the five shop locations.
- Clean, sweep, mop, take out trash in working bays, and common work areas.
- Ensure the safe handling and storage of chemicals and cleaners used in performing daily work duties.
- Abide by established safety standards to meet local safety policies and use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Report to various regional locations as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must have a valid Class C Driver's License.
- 2-5 years' experience in heavy diesel automotive knowledge required.
- Must complete County requirement Live Scan.
- Must be able to maintain a safety-minded approach on all work performed.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite.
- Effective oral and written communication skills with all levels of the organization.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage time and multiple priorities to completion.
- Problem-solving skills with an analytical thought process.
- ASE T4/Air brakes certified or be willing to obtain within three months of employment.
- Willing to obtain the Emergency Vehicle Technician Certification Commission (EVTCC).
- Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment and work in any of the five shop facilities.
- California Bar Smog License preferred, but not required.
- May be required to lift and carry awkward items weighing up to 50 lbs. Requires intermittent standing, walking, sitting, squatting, stretching, and bending throughout the workday.

Working Conditions
Work is typically based in one of five busy service maintenance garage environments, may require occasional on-the-road maintenance repairs. Frequent work outside and in inclement weather conditions is required, including heat, cold, and humidity. May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration. Must be willing to wear Personal Protective Equipment as required by established Company Safety Standards. Normal work hours are Monday-Friday 7:00 am to 4:00 pm, however some extended or weekend hours may also be required.
