Job Summary

The Fixed Assets Accountant will be responsible for maintaining and recording fixed assets at Tesla. This role will involve analyzing asset requests and capital expenditure purchase orders to ensure proper classification as a capital asset. The successful candidate will also be responsible for completing monthly, quarterly, and yearly reconciliations, and will report to the Fixed Assets accounting manager.

Key Responsibilities
  • Asset Classification and Reconciliation
    • Reviews asset requests and capital expenditure purchase orders to ensure proper account coding and compliance with capitalization policy
    • Completes monthly, quarterly, and yearly reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness of fixed asset records
  • Asset Management and Administration
    • Serves as a cross-functional liaison for fixed asset transactions, asset owners, and purchase order requesters
    • Performs asset approvals, capitalization, transfers, and disposals in accordance with company policies and procedures
  • Financial Analysis and Reporting
    • Analyzes assets under construction (AUC) assets and projects to ensure accurate capitalization and placement in service
    • Prepares journal entries, account analysis, and reporting, including fixed asset schedules for interim and end-of-quarter presentations
  • Collaboration and Communication
    • Works closely with internal departments, including production, operational teams, financial planning and analysis, and tax
    • Supports annual confirmation and other financial reporting requirements
  • Process Improvement and Automation
    • Works with each fixed asset region to identify manual processes and implement automation to reduce manual work within the fixed asset team
  • System Administration
    • Serves as the primary point of contact and system administrator for the Tesla fixed asset system
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, with strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to work effectively with others and build partnerships in a collaborative environment
  • Experience and strong understanding of internal controls
  • Maintain flexibility in a fast-paced environment and continuously evolve to meet changing business needs
  • Quick learner and problem solver when faced with new issues or challenges
  • Passion for driving and delivering results and delivering constructive change
