Optum Infusion Pharmacist Job Description

Key Responsibilities:
  • Dispense unit doses, specialty pharmaceuticals, and related supplies in accordance with state and federal regulations and company policies.
  • Compound medications using sterile and ventilated environments, adhering to USP 797 guidelines.
  • Process, pack, and ship outgoing pharmacy orders, ensuring accurate and timely delivery of medications and supplies.
  • Perform drug ordering and inventory duties, including proper storage and refrigeration of perishable products.
  • Review medication orders for appropriateness and completeness, considering the special needs and behaviors of the patient population.
  • Verify prescriptions not directly received from prescribers or physicians' agents.
  • Provide oversight of pharmaceutical care, ensuring the safety, appropriateness, and effectiveness of specialty products dispensed.
  • Assess patients at the initiation of drug therapy, develop patient care plans, and monitor patients throughout therapy.
  • Communicate with patients, physicians, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals regarding patient status, response to therapy, and clinical objectives.
  • Compound intravenous and specialty pharmaceuticals in an aseptic fashion, adhering to established guidelines and company policy.
  • Ensure compliance with FDA, DEA, State Board of Pharmacy, OSHA, and other regulatory standards.
  • Provide indirect oversight of pharmacy technicians and support staff.
Requirements:
  • BS in Pharmacy or PharmD degree.
  • Current, unrestricted Pharmacist license in the state of Arizona.
  • Solid drug product and clinical pharmacy knowledge.
  • Knowledgeable in various infusion-related therapies and able to work through complex therapy-related orders.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to fill medication orders accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including on-call rotations.
  • Permanent residence within a commutable distance to the branch.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Sterile compounding experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • Sitting, standing, walking in an office/pharmacy operation environment.
