Job Summary

This position is responsible for performing moderately complex custodial work in a hospital setting. The Custodian II will work under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Cleans and disinfects interior and exterior surfaces of hospital buildings, including floors, windows, and furniture.
  • Collects and disposes of trash, medical waste, and hazardous waste in accordance with hospital Infection Control Policies and Joint Commission Standards.
  • Performs routine daily tasks, including moving dirty linen, performing inventories, and replenishing supplies.
  • May act as a lead worker or team leader, attending mandatory training as assigned.
  • May be required to work a specific shift schedule, extended shift, or rotating schedule, and may be required to work every other weekend or overtime.
Requirements
  • Knowledge of cleaning techniques and procedures, including the use of germicidal agents and disinfecting methods.
  • Knowledge of proper handling and disposal of medical waste and hazardous waste.
  • Knowledge of Infection Control Policies and Standards, including those related to Tuberculosis patients.
  • Ability to read and write and understand English to effectively communicate and carry out verbal/written instructions.
  • Ability to follow instructions and communicate with co-workers and supervisors.
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent exposure to cleaning chemicals and other hazardous materials. The Custodian II may be required to work in areas with patients, including young adults and geriatric patients.
