Environmental Planner II Job Description

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work on a wide range of environmental permitting, compliance, and natural resources projects related to water resources, transmission, renewable energy, and other infrastructure projects.
  • Collect project-related data, including research, communication with government agencies and clients, review of GIS data and maps, and interpretation of land use code.
  • Collaborate with the project team to prepare and review technical studies, permit applications, and reports for local, state, and federal permitting efforts.
  • Contribute to environmental planning documents, such as NEPA Environmental Impact Statements, Environmental Assessments, and Categorical Exclusions.
  • Independently and collaboratively plan, execute, and complete environmental permitting tasks.
  • Build and support client relationships, develop technical and fee proposals, and respond to RFPs related to environmental services.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5 to 8 years of related experience.
  • Local candidates preferred.
  • Experience with GIS software.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with natural resource elements of planning, especially related to federal and/or state/local regulations.
  • Basic understanding of local, state, and federal government programs and processes.
  • Knowledge of the environmental impact of planning decisions on communities.
  • Familiarity with the legal foundation for land use regulation.
  • Valid Idaho State Driver's license (occasional travel may be needed for project visits or in-person meetings).
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with changing deadlines and priorities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and quality.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or a closely related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of environmental experience.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite.
  • Strong conceptual, organizational, problem-solving, and research abilities.
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.
