Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Child Life Specialist to join our team at Children's National Hospital. As a Child Life Specialist, you will provide therapeutic services and play activities to promote the physical, emotional, and developmental growth of patients and minimize potential stress and trauma for patients and families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess patients' development, temperament, coping style, and adjustment using knowledge of child development and behavior, disease/injury, treatment, healthcare stressors, cultural and family systems.
  • Use knowledge and resources to create developmental plans and implement appropriate child life and interdisciplinary interventions.
  • Provide therapeutic interactions and activities that offer emotional support, opportunities for continued growth and development, and diversion from the hospital experience.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to provide optimal care and advocate for developmentally-appropriate patient and family needs.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of programs and services that promote patient and family-centered care.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Child Life, Child Development, or a related field.
  • Completion of a Child Life internship (minimum 600 hours) and all internship prerequisites.
  • Candidate must be certified or eligible for Child Life Certification.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple tasks simultaneously, utilizing critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Child Life, Child Development, or a related field.
  • Experience working with children and families in a hospital or healthcare setting.
