Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Child Care Assistant to join our team at the Coast Guard Exchange. As a Child Care Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care and education to children in our program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and execute engaging early childhood education experiences that promote healthy emotional, social, intellectual, and physical development in children.
  • Work collaboratively with the director and teachers to develop and implement age-appropriate curriculum and activities.
  • Establish a program environment that fosters positive interactions among children, youth, and adults.
  • Assist in providing and leading planned activities for program participants.
  • Interact with children and youth using approved child guidance and youth development techniques.
  • Interact professionally with staff members, parents, and the command.
  • Assist in maintaining program participation data and completing required daily reports.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED certificate.
  • One year of general experience working with children in a group program.
  • Possess and maintain the physical ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds, walk, bend, stoop, and stand on a routine basis.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years of education above the high school level, including 12-semester hours of college credit in early childhood/elementary/secondary/special education, child/youth development, psychology, human development, youth program administration, or related behavioral sciences.
  • One year vocational certificate in childcare.
