The University of Dayton Research Institute is seeking a highly motivated and innovative Research Software Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our autonomy services team, you will be responsible for developing and integrating software solutions to support dynamic mission planning and execution.
Our autonomy services blend the use of common programming languages like Java and Python with lesser-known logic programming solvers and our own complex event processing domain-specific language. We wrap it into a DevOps framework that deploys through containers.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software development, with experience in at least one of the following areas: software development in object-oriented languages, logic or constraint programming, or operations research optimization with multi-criterion decision analysis.
We are looking for candidates who bring pragmatic expertise in at least one aspect of what we do and will give you the opportunity to grow into the others.
Responsibilities:- Develop and integrate software solutions to support dynamic mission planning and execution
- Work with a technically diverse team to develop and maintain autonomy services
- Collaborate with planners and operators to define and refine mission-specific goals, preferences, and constraints
- Develop domain decision models and software development of autonomy support services
- Integrate and test services for simulation testing and multiple objective optimization
- BS in Computer Science, Linguistics, Engineering, Operations Research, Mathematics, or similar discipline
- 3+ years demonstrable experience with ONE OR MORE of the following: software development in object-oriented language, logic or constraint programming, operations research optimization with multi-criterion decision analysis
- U.S. Citizen and willing and able to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance
- Advanced degree in Computer Science, Linguistics, Engineering, Operations Research, Mathematics, or similar discipline
- Planning domain language experience
- Applied game theory experience
- Ontology and linked data development experience
- Applied artificial intelligence and autonomy technologies experience
- Practical experience with container virtualization and management technologies
