Job Title: Research Software Engineer

The University of Dayton Research Institute is seeking a highly motivated and innovative Research Software Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our autonomy services team, you will be responsible for developing and integrating software solutions to support dynamic mission planning and execution.

Our autonomy services utilize a combination of programming languages, including Java and Python, as well as logic programming solvers and a domain-specific language. You will work with a diverse team of computer scientists, engineers, operations research analysts, and mathematicians to develop and deploy these services.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing domain decision models and software solutions to support autonomy services
  • Integrating and testing services for simulation testing
  • Developing multiple objective optimization techniques

We are looking for candidates with a strong background in software development, particularly in object-oriented languages, logic programming, and operations research optimization. Experience with container virtualization and management technologies is also highly desirable.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • BS in Computer Science, Linguistics, Engineering, Operations Research, Mathematics, or similar discipline
  • 3+ years of programming work experience, or 1.5 years of programming work experience plus an Associate's degree
  • Demonstrable experience with one or more of the following:
    • Software development in object-oriented languages
    • Logic or constraint programming
    • Operations research optimization with multi-criterion decision analysis
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Linguistics, Engineering, Operations Research, Mathematics, or similar discipline
  • Planning domain language experience
  • Applied game theory experience
  • Ontology and linked data development experience
  • Applied artificial intelligence and autonomy technologies experience
  • Practical experience with container virtualization and management technologies
