Job Title: Tax Manager: Direct Tax

We are seeking a highly skilled Tax Manager to join our State and Local Tax (SALT) Services Group in our Cleveland Office. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in state income and franchise tax, as well as experience in tax planning and consulting.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain excellent relationships with clients on a variety of consulting and compliance engagements focusing on state and local direct tax.
  • Advise clients on challenges including partnership and corporate state/local tax returns with attention to multistate tax issues.
  • Work with an in-house tax preparation team and coordinate detailed review of estimated payment, withholding and composite tax calculations and investor packages.
  • Manage the engagement workflow, talent, and invoicing.
  • Become a trusted business advisor to our clients focusing on audit representation, nexus planning, and voluntary disclosures.
  • Research and analyze a wide variety of tax issues, including state tax legislation and assist with the compliance and investor reporting process.
  • Assist in the proposal process for new and existing clients.
  • Act as mentor and/or career advisor for members of the engagement team to support their training, growth and development.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or other related business field. Master's degree in taxation is a plus.
  • CPA or other appropriate certification is preferred but not required.
  • 3-5 years' experience in state income and franchise tax or federal tax, pass-through, tax research, and corporate tax returns.
  • Experience providing tax planning services is a plus.
  • Excellent research, writing, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Experience working within a CPA firm is preferred.
  • Management/Supervisory experience.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint) as well as basic knowledge of operating systems.
