Key Responsibilities:- Prepare and reconcile monthly sales and use tax reports provided to Avalara.
- Review, request, and maintain exemption certificates in Exemption Certificate software.
- Prepare quarterly and annual tax provisions, related disclosures, and workpapers for financial statements in consultation with a 3rd party tax reviewer.
- Prepare and/or gather information requested from a 3rd party tax preparer for annual income/franchise tax compliance, including preparing state apportionment schedules.
- Review income/franchise tax estimates and extension and process payments, including coordinating with budget forecasts for tax estimates.
- Review invoices and/or contracts to make taxability determinations on transactions and various issues.
- Review and identify use tax accruals of purchases subject to tax.
- Maintain tax automation software to ensure compliance accuracy.
- Manage sales and use tax registrations, permits, and other tax business licenses.
- Reconcile tax-related accounts housed in the company's general ledger.
- Assist with state tax audits in areas such as data preparation, reconciliations, sampling, research, and documentation requests.
- Prepare city Gross Receipts, Business & Occupational Returns, and Net Profit Returns.
- Provide required data and other information to a third-party ad valorem tax service provider.
- Maintain correspondence logs and respond to various tax notices, as well as research tax issues as needed.
- Review Vendor Setups and manage annual 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC filing process.
- Work with other departments to compile and analyze information to ensure proper tax treatment.
- Review, recommend, and implement transaction tax process improvements.
- Provide requested reports/data to other departments, such as gross receipts for business licenses.
- Assist in any special projects, including any applicable tax research.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting is required.
- CPA license designation preferred.
- At least 5-7 years of tax experience.
- Working knowledge of multi-state sales & use tax compliance, audits, laws, and regulations is required.
- Experience in Quarterly/Annual Tax Provisioning, ensuring compliance with relevant tax laws and regulations, including Section 163j, uncertain tax positions, deferred revenue, etc.
- Excellent organizational skill and balancing of multiple tasks.
- Experience with an online state tax research system is required.
- Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office, in particular Excel and Word.
- Ability to directly identify and tackle critical issues; effectively utilize knowledge of sound business and technical operations practices; adeptly work under pressure.
- Experience with Income/Franchise Tax, property tax.
- Experience with NetSuite and Avalara or similar systems is a plus.
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
- Strong, independent worker.
- Detail-oriented and effective time management and organizational skills.
