Job Summary

The Wilmington Public Schools is seeking a skilled and compassionate Nurse to join our team in the Extended Day Program. As a key member of our staff, you will be responsible for providing medical care and support to students enrolled in our before and after school programs.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records for all students, including medication logs and health histories.
  • Develop and implement protocols for managing medical needs, including medication administration and emergency response plans.
  • Collaborate with school day nurses to ensure seamless communication and coordination of care.
  • Provide training and education to staff on medical procedures and protocols.
  • Advise the program coordinator on medical concerns and develop strategies for addressing them.
  • Arrange staffing schedules for vacation and summer programs, ensuring adequate coverage for medical needs.
  • Develop and implement training programs for staff on medication administration, CPR, and first aid.
  • Order medical supplies as needed and maintain inventory.
  • Provide on-site medical support as needed, including filling in at sites with known medical needs.
  • Attend regular staff meetings to stay informed and provide updates on medical matters.

Requirements

  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Massachusetts.
  • Experience working with children and adolescents, preferably in a school or healthcare setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work effectively with staff, students, and parents.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive medical information.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.

Working Conditions

This is a traveling position, with regular visits to multiple school sites. The Nurse will be required to travel between sites, using their own vehicle or public transportation, as needed.
