Job Summary

Michigan Technological University seeks a highly skilled Electrical Engineer to oversee the administration of the campus electrical system, ensuring compliance with NEC and other pertinent code requirements. The successful candidate will work closely with in-house personnel and outside consultants to coordinate projects, changes, and expansion of the system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer the campus electrical power distribution system, including high voltage, medium voltage, and low voltage systems.
  • Verify compliance with system safety requirements per NEC and MIOSHA, working with outside consultants as necessary.
  • Coordinate changes to the overall campus electrical system due to various construction and/or renovation projects.
  • Work with the Director of Planning & Construction Services, the Director of Energy Management, and others to develop and implement long-term plans to make the campus electrical system more sustainable and efficient.
  • Administer electrical design contracts, supervise outside electrical engineers, testing service contractors, and other special services contractors.
  • Manage planning, engineering, scheduling, and construction of various projects as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in electrical engineering.
  • Licensed PE in Michigan or another State in the United States.
  • Five years or more of experience in the design and construction of electrical systems involving new buildings, renovations, and system upgrades.
  • Demonstrated experience performing inspection and quality control for electrical construction projects.
  • Construction contract management experience.
  • Budget and cost estimating experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in the design and construction of high voltage electrical distribution systems for campus or municipal electrical systems.
  • Design and/or construction of alternate energy systems such as solar or wind power.
  • Experience working in Facilities Management for a higher education institution.
  • Experience overseeing and/or coordinating major building maintenance projects.
  • Experience designing and/or analyzing various low voltage data, communication, security, and other systems.
Working Conditions

The employee is occasionally required to stand, climb, or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, reach with hands and arms, and taste or smell. The employee is frequently required to walk, sit, talk, and hear, and use hands to finger or feel and object. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, and color vision, and the ability to focus. The noise level in the work environment is occasionally very loud.
