Director of Administration

Michigan Technological University is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Administration to join our team. As a key member of the Associate Vice President for Administration's portfolio, this role will play a pivotal part in managing division-wide initiatives and administrative processes.
Key Responsibilities:- Serve as the AVPA's Executive Assistant and Chief of Staff for the Administrative and Auxiliary departments.
- Anticipate and execute the strategic and operational needs of the AVPA, working collaboratively with departmental leaders and across campus.
- Promote effective communication and coordination of workflow within the division.
- Interact frequently with students, staff, faculty, and external constituents, exercising functional supervision of administrative and student staff as needed.
- Analyze information and resolve problems, issues, and concerns, escalating or routing incoming requests appropriately.
- Assist the AVPA in confidential and sensitive matters, managing calendars and logistics, scheduling travel, and maintaining operational files.
- Independently manage expenditures in the AVPA's budget and prepare monthly and on-demand reports.
- Serve as the primary contact for the campus vending machine contract, managing financial performance and providing operational oversight.
- Work collaboratively with the Manager of Planning and Budget in the financial management of the division.
- Lead search processes for the AVPA and prepare regular and ad hoc reports for senior-level administrators and the Board of Trustees.
- Associate's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Extensive administrative management experience, with demonstrated experience working with budget and financial information.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
- Desirable: Bachelor's degree or higher, 5 years administrative or business management experience, project management expertise and certification, experience working in higher education, and proficiency in enterprise software.
The work environment is that of a typical office and/or classroom setting, with a moderate noise level. The position requires the ability to work independently and take initiative to solve problems, with a commitment to contributing to a safe work environment.
