Substation Engineer

UPPCO is seeking a highly skilled Substation Engineer to join their team in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. As a Substation Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, testing, and commissioning protective relay systems, control systems, and SCADA systems used in our electrical substations and generating plants.

• Contribute to the creation, maintenance, and verification of electrical drawings and designs for utility substations and generating facilities.
• Assist with the testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of relay and control systems.
• Help monitor and manage projects to ensure they stay on track and within scope.
• Collaborate with various teams across the company to answer questions and provide expert advice on substation systems and components.
• Advocate for best practices in engineering, ensuring all work meets safety and regulatory standards.

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Power, Technology, Electronics, or Instrumentation required.
• 2 or more years' experience in electric utility engineering relative to substation systems, power systems, and/or SCADA engineering is preferred.
• Michigan Licensed Professional Engineer, a bonus.
• Expertise in project management and a track record of technical leadership is preferred.
• Proficiency in CAD software is required.
• Strong problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to safety and compliance required.
• Strong relational and communication skills required.
• Ability to manage a diverse workload and prioritize tasks.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel amongst the Upper Peninsula to various UPPCO locations.
